Princess Costumes Still Number One Costume For Kids

You might be thinking Angry Birds costumes would be the number one costume for kids this Halloween. You would be wrong. Well, at least according to the National Retail Federation. Things could be differently in your own particular neighborhood, of course. Come October 31, you may be seeing all sorts of adorable Angry Birds roaming the neighborhood, ringing doorbells and tweeting "Trick or Treat!"

But Princesses are still queen when it comes to the most popular children's costumes. Nothing beats out tradition it seems, as the report says that along with princess costumes, witches and super-hero costumes round out the top three favorites for little kids.

Surprisingly enough, Angry Birds did not even make the top ten list of Halloween Costumes. And those costumes are so cute too!

So here, according to the National Retail Federation, are the most popular costumes for kids this year:

1. Princess
2. Witch
3. Spiderman
4. Pirate
5. Pumpkin
6. Fairy
7. Action/superhero
8. Vampire (tie)
8. Batman (tie)
9. Zombie (tie)
9. Disney Princess (tie)
10. Star Wars characters

Dinosaurs R Us This Halloween

So my wonderful imaginative 4 year old has made a very important decision. He will be a dinosaur for Halloween. Decision done. Costume search will now commence. I love Halloween. And I love 4 year olds. I especially love my little 4 year old.
He is nuts about dinosaurs right now which is cool because last year at this time he wanted to be a worm for Halloween. Dinosaurs are way better than worms, in my opinion anyway,

So my son says he wants to be a red and green T-Rex dinosaur which is currently his favorite among all dinosaurs. I must admit I prefer green and red as opposed to purple (Barney ring a bell?) for dinosaur colors, but I am thinking he will look like a Christmas dinosaur.

My son also wants his little brother to be a mermaid or a Barbie. Which just seems to be fine with my 23 month old. He smiled his drooly huge smile when his older brother informed him of this decision tonight. I won't tell you what my hubby had to say about this however. I'll just leave it to your imagination.

Cherishing The Fun Of Halloween and Halloween Costumes

I cannot believe how fast September is flying by. I say this every year about this time, but I never get used to it. Once school starts again it's like a blink of an eye before the holiday season sets in. Halloween is in the air (as well as the shelves at our local CVS store!), and I'm loving the beautiful Fall colors I am beginning to see. As I mentioned before, the main topic in our house these days is Halloween Costumes, and who wants to be what. We really have no strong contenders yet in the costume department however, and I am curious to see what my daughter will finally zero in on. Of course much depends on what Halloween costumes her friends will be wearing. The choices of costumes is such a bittersweet reminder of how quickly my little girl is growing up...long gone are the days of fairy princesses and animal characters. And soon enough will come the Halloween where my sweet daughter will decide that dressing up in a costume is too childish for her. So I plan to enjoy every minute of this Halloween, and cherish the fact that all three of my kids will be giggly and happy in their costumes of choice as they prepare to ravage the neighborhood for candy!

Thinking About Halloween Costumes

My most favorite time of the year is coming up! I love everything Fall. I love the leaves turning colors, the cooler crisper air, the smell of fireplaces, and of course, Halloween! Yep, I am already starting to think about Halloween costumes for my kids as well as for me and the hubby.

We have had so much fun every year getting ready for Halloween and picking out costumes. So here I am in August looking at Halloween sites and thinking about what my daughter and boys might like. I am also checking out some very cool ideas for hubby and me (wouldn't mind seeing him dressed up like a swaggering pirate aka Johnny Depp style!)

My daughter loves Witches and Sorceress type costumes. She doesn't seem to care that she is a witch almost every year--it's just what she loves. But the costume itself metamorphoses each year as she gets older. There are so many great Halloween costumes having to do with witches and the like that I know she will spend hours checking them all out, discussing the pros and cons of each with her friends, until she makes her final choice. Personally I think she would look great in this celestial sorceress costume I found on Costume Cauldron, but if I tell her I like that one chances are she won't like it. So I'll keep quiet and she which one she picks out.

As for my boys, we usually end up with character costumes. Last year my son somehow came up with the idea that he wanted to be a worm! Of all things...a worm. And of course, I could not find a worm costume, though I admit I didn't try too hard, LOL. He ended up as Thomas the Train, and my littlest guy was the cutest vampire ever. This year I have my eye on the cute alligator costume for him. It looks adorable!

So who knows what everyone will end up being. But I do know we are going to have so much fun looking at all the costumes and deciding on our favorites. If you check out Costume Cauldron, here's a tip for you! There's a secret HAUNTED HOUSE backdoor on the website that will get you a great discount! To get to the backdoor, go to the homepage halfway down on the right and click on the brown comma in the line that reads “Our Store now has over 10,000 masquerade items for you to choose from!”
