There is something about Fall that just makes it my favorite time of the year. Maybe it's the gorgeous colors of fall leaves or the yummy pumpkin spice I smell in coffee shops and grocery stores, or maybe it is just the plain old fun and excitement of Halloween.
Kids are more ready than ever to have some Halloween fun (and candy ) this year.
I cannot wait to decorate our house for fall and Halloween.

If ever there was a Halloween where we all needed extra treats, it is this Halloween.
Including our furry family members. What better way to celebrate Halloween with your dog than making them their very own special homemade dog treats for Halloween as well?
(Well, aside from getting them their own dog costumes, of course.)
But before we get to the recipes, here are a couple of notes about the types of flour that are safe for dog treats. There are different flour options to choose from when making your own dog treats. If your dog has allergies, for example, try switching the flour called for in a recipe with gluten-free flour instead.
Are Dog Treats With Flour Bad For Dogs??
The short answer is No. But, the type of flour you use when making dog treats is important! First of all, while flour is an ingredient in many kinds of dog food and treats, dogs do not need it.
Flour is mainly used in pet food to bind ingredients, according to Rover.
Is It Okay For Dogs to Have White Flour in Treats?
Yes and no. It turns out that white flour is processed (bleached) and loses most of its nutrients. So bleached flour is not going to give your dog any health benefits.
It is better to replace all-purpose white flour in recipes with healthier whole-grain flour or non-grain flour. But if you do use regular flour for dog treats, buy the unbleached flour.
So while regular flour is not really harmful to dogs (in small amounts), remember there are healthier options out there.
What Type of Flour Is Safe For Dogs Then?
Whole grain flour is generally healthier than regular flour for dogs because whole grain flour keeps all the nutrients. Some healthy whole-grain flour to use in homemade dog treat recipes are Buckwheat, Millet, and Oat. Pea, Quinoa, Rice, and Sorghum flour are also healthy and nutritious for dogs.
If your dog has allergies, you may want to use gluten-free non-grain flours. Gluten-free flours include Almond, Chickpea, Coconut, Hazel, Lentil, and Potato.
Flours To Avoid Using in Homemade Dog Treats
Soy, Wheat, and Corn should not be used in dog treat recipes. Now, I know whole wheat flour is a popular choice in homemade dog treats. And it can be fine. Just note that wheat flour can be bad for dogs who are prone to allergies. Wheat flour contains gluten, which can trigger allergies in dogs and humans.
As long as your pup is fine with grains and wheat, then whole wheat flour is fine to use and will provide your dog with healthy vitamins.
